People have joys and sorrows, separations and reunions, and the moon waxes and wanes. This is a difficult thing in ancient times.

Creation background: This poem was written in the Mid-Autumn Festival (1076), the ninth year of Xining, Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, when the author was in Mizhou (now Zhucheng, Shandong).
