In the summer of 2020, the street stall economy hit the topic list. I followed the trend and set up a stall to buy some gadgets, and earned 1k in 15 days.
Although I don’t make much money, I can still sum up some experiences to share in the process. I hope it can help you when you are preparing to set up a stall.
The stall is called selling cute products. The first thing you need to do is to determine what you want to sell. If it is not a first-hand source and you need to buy it from 1688 like me, my experience is: 1. Choose novel products.
Consumption at street stalls is almost all impulse consumption, and the more novel it is, the more attractive it is.
There were still people buying the bubble machines in early June, but by July the bubble machines had almost completely lost their popularity, and no one was interested in the bubble machines that were put up together.
I was one of the first people to sell mosquito repellent bracelets at the night market. I bought 10 of them on my first try and sold 7 on the first day.
Then I entered 30 more, but I didn’t go to the stall for a week because of something else. When I went back, mosquito repellent bracelets were very common, and the advantages of my product were weakened.
2. Choose products with large profit margins.
Let’s take the bubble machine as an example. When it’s hot, it’s priced at RMB 14, and usually sells for RMB 25. The profit doesn’t even reach 100%, and it loses the advantage of a street stall.
I always buy mosquito repellent bracelets for 2 yuan, and the average transaction price is 10 yuan.
This kind of single product has a low price, and even though the profit is not high, I am still very happy when I think about the profit margin.
Similar items include night lights, sunscreen ice sleeves, pinch music, large intestine hair ties, and Douyin little yellow ducks. 3. Choose products that glow.
Things that light up at night are really attractive. Children’s eyes will go straight when they see the night light, and then parents will pay for it.
If the product does not emit light, then buy a light string. I bought my light string from Taobao. For small quantities of single products, it is more cost-effective to place an order on Taobao than 1688.
Choose a location with a strong consumer atmosphere.
I have placed it in three places, the lakeside in the park, the open space next to shopping mall A, and the night market planned by shopping mall B.
There are many people walking by the lake, but everyone's expectation of the park is not a place for consumption, so the daily turnover is basically only about 50 yuan.
The open space next to shopping mall A was initially used for free stalls, and seven mosquito repellent bracelets were sold here a day. However, because the stalls were freely set up, one had to reserve a spot in advance, and later they started to charge a fee. I only went there once.
I went to the night market planned by Mall B the most, and it lasted for 9 days. The pictures of the stalls above were taken here.
The consumption level of shopping mall B can probably be compared to that of Wanda Joy City. There are many restaurants in the mall, and the Haidilao restaurant upstairs costs over 100 yuan per person. If you go out and buy a toy for more than ten yuan, no one will think it is expensive.
There are also many residences nearby, and many people take their children for a walk after dinner. The average turnover can reach 10.
In addition, the mall provides lighting, tables, and tents, so even if it charges a management fee of 10 yuan a day, I still think this is the best location.
Pricing 1. Pricing based on location selection.
When setting up stalls by the lake, mosquito repellent bracelets cost 10 yuan. Unless the children particularly want it, it is usually not easy to set a price and make a deal.
I priced the mosquito repellent bracelets at 12 a piece and 20 for two at the B mall night market. Almost no one counter-priced them because the spending power of B mall is higher.
2. Set a combination price to deal with counteroffers.
If you want it cheaper, buy two.
Ice sleeves cost 10 yuan a pair and 18 yuan for two pairs; large intestine hair ties cost 5 yuan each and 8 yuan for two, and mosquito repellent bracelets cost 12 yuan each and cost 20 yuan each.
This eliminates people trying to make counteroffers and turns over money faster.
If you meet someone who insists on making a counter-offer after only buying one, give a small gift. I usually give Nie Nie Le, which costs less than 30 cents.
3. Refuse gently when you encounter people making counter-offers. If you don’t have enough experience in setting up a stall at the beginning, you will get angry if someone makes a counter-offer. If you refuse too forcefully, they will stop buying.
You must refuse. You must look at the other person sincerely and say: My price is really low. There is nothing cheaper than mine on the whole street.
The time arrangement is only for peak traffic hours.
If your stall is just for fun and to earn some pocket money like me, don't set it up for too long, otherwise you won't have the energy to go to work the next day.
The target group of my stall is mainly children. I usually leave the stall after 7 o'clock and close it at 9 o'clock. After 9 o'clock, the children all go home, so there is little point in spending more.
Even with the transportation time, it takes more than three hours to set up a stall, which is still quite tiring.
Set up stalls within your own capabilities and do not affect your normal life.
Some details 1. The idea of ??using iPad to make light signs is great. You can find related applications by searching for light signs in the App Store. 2. My boyfriend and I set up a stall together.
This can be regarded as a way for couples to get along.
3. Don’t worry if business is bad one day, because you may pick up money on the way home.
