He Jiping's "The First Floor in the World" is quite a legacy of "Teahouse" and can be called a masterpiece of contemporary Beijing-style drama. The script depicts the rise and fall of Beijing's "Fujude" roast duck restaurant in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China in a traditional realistic style, and vividly reproduces the scenery and folk customs of the "old capital" in the 192s. Its uniqueness lies in the description of food culture, which writes out the various life styles and the changes of people's cultural psychology, making the script rich in history and reality.
