Shanxi University of Finance and Economics is one of the earliest financial institutions established after the founding of New China, and it is also the highest institution of economics and management in Shanxi Province. Shanxi Institute of Finance and Economics was established in September, 1958. It has successively been under the leadership of Shanxi Province, All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Internal Trade. In December 1984, Shanxi Institute of Economics and Management was established under the leadership of Shanxi Province. In October, 1997, Shanxi University of Finance and Economics and Shanxi Institute of Economics and Management merged to form Shanxi University of Finance and Economics, which was governed by provincial departments.
