Feeding distiller’s grains to cattle
Distillers’ grains are the residue from the brewing industry. It is not only rich in nutrients and energy, but also has the effect of increasing appetite. When feeding distiller's grains, you should pay attention to the following aspects:
1. Cattle may not be used to feeding distiller's grains at the beginning, but they will get used to it after a 3-5 day feeding period. When feeding distiller's grains, start from a little to a large amount and gradually increase the amount. After the cattle get used to eating it, feed it according to the amount.
2. Feed regularly and quantitatively. Feed twice a day in spring and winter, at 7:30 in the morning, drink warm water once at noon, and at 6 pm. In autumn, take the medicine at 7 o'clock in the morning, drink warm water once at noon, and take the medicine at 5:30 in the evening. In summer, take it at 4 o'clock in the morning and at 6:30 in the evening. Drink clean cold water twice at noon. It is advisable to feed each head 4 kilograms of fresh distiller's grains per day in the early stage of fattening, 6 kilograms in the middle stage, and 5.5 kilograms in the later stage.
3. Add and mix frequently. When feeding, you should add it sparingly and mix it as you eat.
4. The feeding amount should not be too large. Feeding too much distiller's grains for a long time can easily cause diseases such as hyperacidity and rumen distension in beef cattle. Adding an appropriate amount of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to the lees can reduce the acidity.
Both brewer’s grains and white distiller’s grains can be fed to cattle, but brewer’s grains are more palatable.
