Guantou Town is located on the north bank of the Minjiang River Estuary, in the center of three counties (districts): Lianjiang, Mawei and Langqi. It is the east gate to the provincial capital Fuzhou.

With convenient transportation and obvious location advantages, it is a provincial trade point with Taiwan and a pilot town for small town construction in China approved by the State Council.

Guantou Town has a total area of ??64 square kilometers and is divided into "one district, one line and three islands". It currently has 28 administrative villages (residences) with a total population of 59,300 and a total number of households of 17,200.

Guantou Town is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Fujian Province, with 42,000 overseas Chinese living abroad.

In 2011, according to the arrangements of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, Guantou Town in Lianjiang County was included in Mawei New City for unified planning and construction.
