National Hotel was funded by Li Zhengqing, comprador of American Gome Fengyang Company, designed by Swiss Tetra Pak Engineering Department, and built in 1923. It was a high-class hotel for catering and tourism, and also a place for upper-class people to stay and get together at that time. China * * * the underground organization of the production party has also carried out revolutionary work here under the cover of hotels. On February 9, 1926, 58 delegates attending the Third Congress of the All-China Railway Federation held a meeting on the second floor of the hotel. The General Assembly adopted 28 draft resolutions, including the Resolution on the Report of the All-China Railway Federation of Trade Unions. On November 9, 1934, Ji Hongchang, a patriotic general against Japanese aggression, was stabbed and arrested by a Kuomintang spy when he met with a representative of Li Zongren in Room 45 of the hotel, and was killed in Beiping soon. From 1936 to 1937, the "Knowledge Bookstore", the secret organ and liaison station of Tianjin Municipal Committee of CPC, was also located here, and Wu Yannong, Ye Duzhuang and Lin Feng were engaged in revolutionary work here.
