Basic introduction to Mingsha Mountain

On the vast grassland, a mountain about five kilometers long appeared miraculously. A sand mountain formed by accumulation of quartz feldspar. The mountain runs northeast-southwest, gentle in the west and steep in the east. A small river meanders beneath my feet. When people slide down from the top of the sand mountain, they can hear the sound coming from the inside of the mountain, like thousands of horses galloping and the sea tide surging, so it is named Mingsha Mountain.

The sound of sand in Hami Mingsha Mountain is so loud that it tops the three major sand sounds in the country (Mingsha Mountain in Dunhuang, Gansu, Shapotou in Zhongwei County, Ningxia, and Xiangshawan in Baotou, Inner Mongolia). There is a local folk legend: When Fan Lihua, a female general of the Tang Dynasty, led her troops to conquer the west, a battalion of female soldiers encountered the enemy. The battle was fierce and due to the huge disparity in numbers, all of them were killed. Fan Lihua arrived with her troops and defeated the enemy soldiers. All the corpses of the soldiers were buried on the sand mountain, and their ghosts remained unyielding. The cries of fighting often came from the bottom of the sand mountain. Based on this legend, people named this scenic spot "Shashan Hidden Camp".

Many years ago, archaeologists unearthed ancient weapons, saddles, bones, etc. from the sandy bottom. It is said that this was the place where ancient armies met. There was a general who led 500 strong men in a bloody battle with the Xiongnu, and the entire army died here.
