1. Soften the Sunlight

The quickest and easiest way to take beautiful photos is to use sufficient sunlight that is not directly illuminated. For example, a table under an outdoor umbrella on a sunny day is a good shooting location.

2. Place the table close to the window

If there is no outdoor venue, or it is too cold, rainy, etc., then there is another way. You can ask for a window seat, don't be embarrassed, they will serve you.

3. Large aperture lens

Outdoor or window seats are only effective during the day, but what if it is night and the sun has gone down? At this time, ordinary digital cameras are no good The solution is to require a SLR camera with interchangeable lenses. At the same time, you need a lens with a large aperture, f/1.8 or f/2.8. If the lens aperture is smaller than f/4, you will have difficulties.

4. Live view

Live view is a very useful function. Not only does it eliminate the need to hold the camera to your face (which is always a bit inappropriate in a fancy hotel), but it also allows for precise manual focus, where autofocus can be problematic in low-light environments.

5. Don’t shoot from eye level

The best angle for photographing food is about 10-40 degrees on the table. Never shoot from eye level. We all view food from this height, so a fresh angle can make photos more appealing.

6. Get closer

Many people like to use wide-angle lenses to shoot food, but the results are not attractive enough. What the audience wants to see is actually the food itself, without extra foreground and background. Unless your focus is the entire table, it's best to shoot close to the food.

7. Don’t use on-camera flash

On-camera flash is the enemy of beautiful photos. Do not use an on-camera flash unless it is an emergency and there is no other option.

Finally, don’t underestimate post-editing software. Even less-than-ideal photos can be saved with the Curves function. Having said all that, I know that photographing delicious food is not that difficult.
