His Master's Voice

This puppy is called Nipper, a stray puppy adopted by Barraud, a British painter. After Mark's death, Nipper continued to be adopted by his brother Francis.

Francis is also a painter. He likes to paint while listening to music played by the phonograph. Francis found that every time he listened to music, Nipper was always very sensitive to the sound played on the phonograph and often listened attentively.

after nipper's death, Francis painted a portrait of it and named it His Master's Voice.

Later, this painting was bought by Gramophone Company, which produces phonographs, as its registered trademark HMV (short HMV (His Master's Voice).

In p>1921, HMV opened its first record retail store in London. Since then, HMV has set up several branches around the world, including several HMV branches in Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong.

in the 1991s, when I went to Hong Kong, I paid a special visit to the manager in charge of record promotion of HMV in Hong Kong, and put our own records such as Lake and Feng Huang Yu Fei in their stores for sale.

During those days, I often went to HMV to listen to all kinds of music CDs, and bought more than ten classical and jazz records there.

I vaguely remember that HMV's store in Causeway Bay had four floors at that time, among which there were many kinds, which were dazzling ...

On this trip to Hong Kong, I specially chose to go to HMV's largest store in Causeway Bay.

Walking into the current HMV, I feel more like an out-and-out "music fashion factory".

Only this iconic puppy Nipper standing next to the red mailbox and some vinyl records hanging on the wall remind you from time to time that this is a record store with a long history.

this store has three floors.

the first floor is exclusive for CDs and vinyl records.

As before, there is still a special listening room for jazz and classical music in the store, which specializes in listing and selling some precious classical and jazz vinyl records.

Closing the door is like wandering in a pure land of classical and jazz music, quiet and peaceful ...

The second floor is mainly for audio equipment sales, and there are special exhibition and audition rooms for some equipment brands.

The third floor is a place with multiple functions such as music and food, ancient and modern, and cultural collision.

when I first set foot on the third floor, the old records and picture books on the table on the right really attracted me, especially this set of Beatles picture books, whose cover is the cover of the band's most famous and iconic album Abby Road (four people crossing the zebra crossing on Abby Road in London simultaneously).

On this floor, some old things from the old times can be seen everywhere, such as telephone booths, motorcycles and so on, and there is a shop that mainly displays and sells guitars.

through the food store, the innermost part is a small music scene.

Seeing that I was taking pictures, the service student called their manager. The manager told me that taking pictures was not allowed on this floor, but unexpectedly, before I could explain my purpose, she suddenly changed her mind and didn't stop my shooting.

Maybe she thinks I look like a music lover, hahahaha ...

I stayed at HMV for almost a whole morning without knowing it, and didn't leave until the afternoon.

time flies, and the music remains the same after 21 years!
