This small port town in Guangxi is only separated from Vietnam by a river, and you can still eat authentic Vietnamese food.

Dongxing is the port city from Guangxi to Vietnam by land. It is only across a river from Mong Cai City in Vietnam. In the past, you could start a day trip to Vietnam here.

Before I came here, I didn’t understand the relationship between Fangcheng Port and Dongxing. Here I will briefly introduce it to you. Dongxing is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fangcheng Port. To go to Dongxing, you must first go to Fangcheng Port. Fangcheng Port is mainly for watching the sea and eating seafood.

, and the highlight of Dongxing is mainly the one-day trip to Vietnam (suspended during YQ) and experiencing this exotic customs influenced by Vietnam.

It takes more than an hour to take a bus from Fangchenggang to Dongxing. You can take a bus from the passenger terminal in Fangcheng District or the passenger terminal in the port area. There are also buses from Fangchenggang North Station to Dongxing directly.

Originally, I thought there wasn’t much to do in Dongxing. After all, we can’t go on a one-day trip to Vietnam during the YQ period. Basically, we can finish it in one day. I don’t want to carry my suitcase from Fangchenggang to Dongxing again, but it turns out that one day is enough.

We really don’t have enough time, so I strongly recommend that you stay in Dongxing for at least one night. Let’s talk about my travel and food experience here in detail.

There are two must-visit places in Dongxing, one is the Wanzhong International Wholesale Market, and the other is the port. These two places are right next to each other.

Dongxing is not a big city in general. There are many private motorcycles. They are all motorcycles. If you don’t have a bicycle, it will be very convenient if you know how to ride a motorcycle. The distance from the bus station to the port is not far or near.

Regarding the Wanzhong International Wholesale Market, I was full of expectations before going there because I had been to Vietnam before and some Vietnamese snacks were quite good, so I wanted to bring some from Dongxing.

But I was a little disappointed after going there. How should I put it? It’s just used to deceive people who have never been to Vietnam, right?

I don’t know whether it has always been like this, or whether it was caused by the lack of communication between the two countries during the YQ period. I can only say what I felt this time.

I read online that there are many Vietnamese specialties, but in fact many things in the market are not made in Vietnam, but domestically produced. There may not even be one tenth of the things made in Vietnam.

However, the prices in each store here are quite consistent. Basically, the prices of the same snacks are not much different at each store. I bought the yogurt recommended by many people online, which is far different from the yogurt I had in Vietnam.

It tastes like saccharin and additives, and it can be stored for a long time when stored at room temperature. Who knows how many preservatives it contains.

Many dried mangoes, coconut sugar, durian sugar, cashew nuts, etc. are also made in China. I bought a board of coconut sugar. Regardless of where it was made, the taste is okay, but the durian sugar is just average.

So if you have the mentality of going to Dongxing to buy Vietnamese specialties, I suggest you give it up and just take a look. In addition, don’t buy durian near the port. It is better to buy it at the local market.

After leaving the Wanzhong International Wholesale Market, it is the national gate of Dongxing Port. Standing here, you can see Vietnam on the other side of the river.

When there was no YQ before, the ports were open. You can also go to Mong Cai City opposite for a day trip to Vietnam, just walk across the bridge below.

Now that the port is temporarily closed, we can only take a brief look.

At the boundary marker locating the Qinzhou boundary of the Qing Dynasty, there is a high wall on the other side of the road. The river outside the high wall is the boundary river between the two countries, and Vietnam is on the other side of the river.

Standing on the port side, you can see several buildings on the Vietnamese side. On our side of the river, there are iron fences to prevent people from crossing.

This feeling of having another country so close to you is really amazing. Although I have been to the national gate in other places before, this is really the first time for me to be so close to Dongxing. I saw the national gate when I went to Manzhouli before.

There is a fee, so there is no way to go.

Although you can't go to Vietnam for a day trip now, if you come to visit, you might as well stay in a hotel next to the port for one night. You can overlook Vietnam directly from the upper floor. Moreover, the price is relatively cheap now. You can stay in Vietnam for 300 to 400 yuan.

A room with a city view is still a five-star hotel. The better Ramada has a higher floor and a better view. The cheaper Vienna can see the city view on the other side.

To be honest, I am quite regretful because my luggage is still at Fangchenggang and I cannot come to Dongxing again the next day, so I cannot experience the view of Vietnam’s city from a high place, which should be quite interesting.

After talking about things to do in Dongxing, let’s talk about the food here. If you want to eat Vietnamese food, you must stay in Dongxing for a few more days. Fangchenggang is a city of immigrants. Not only the Vietnamese food cannot be compared with Dongxing, but the overall food is not as distinctive as Dongxing.

.

There are many Vietnamese restaurants in Dongxing. Due to time constraints, I only visited three, so I’m not particularly sure about the quality of Vietnamese food here.

I always thought that the noodles here would be influenced by Vietnam, with more beef noodles. But after I went there, I discovered that the specialty here is chicken noodles.

The most recommended ones online are Hua Jie’s Chicken Noodles and Sanjie’s Chicken Noodles. Although they are not as famous as Hua Jie’s, they are said to be more popular among locals.

I ate at both of these restaurants. Fortunately, I met the third sister on the way to Huajie and tried it first.
