Penghua mustard Not all mustards can be called Penghua mustard. Only the native Penghua black mustard can be called Penghua mustard.
Penghua people all have this confidence and affection for Penghua Mustard.
Speaking of Penghua mustard, everyone may know the legend that "Penghua mustard is better than Jieyuan".
It is said that in the winter of the ninth year of Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty, Huang Yiji, the leader of Fengzhou's Jieyuan Dynasty, went to Huamei Bridge in Penghua Village to write inscriptions. He had a mustard feast and was full of praise. When he returned, he brought more than 10 fresh mustards with him in a sedan chair back to Fengzhou.
The sedan weighed more than 100 kilograms. Halfway through the journey, the bearers began to complain. They thought the mustard greens were just "ordinary things" and suggested discarding some to reduce the weight.
At that time, Huang Jieyuan insisted on staying. He got off the sedan chair and walked, letting Mustard sit in the sedan chair.
At that time, only those who could ride in the sedan were those with status and fame. Huang Jieyuan's approach amazed the people along the way, and they all laughed and said, "Penghua mustard is better than Jieyuan", so it became known as Penghua mustard.
Until now, mustard greens are an indispensable flavor in the lives of Penghua people. They can be made into dried vegetables, "knock vegetables" or eaten fresh.
