In the late night, the wind is still and the grain is flat. The boat has passed away since then. What does it mean to spend the rest of my life in the rivers and seas?

Meaning: Taking advantage of the late night, calm wind, and flat river waves, I can sail on a small boat and disappear, traveling around the rivers, lakes and seas for the rest of my life.

Original text: After drinking in Dongpo at night, I woke up drunk and returned as if it was midnight.

The boy's breath is thundering.

No one knocks on the door, but leans on the stick and listens to the sound of the river.

I always regret that this body is not mine, when will I forget Yingying?

The wind is quiet at night and the grain is flat.

The boat passed away from now on, and the river and sea left it for the rest of my life.

Translation: I woke up and got drunk after a late night banquet in Dongpo's apartment. It seemed like it was already midnight when I came back.

By this time, the child servant at home was already fast asleep and snoring like thunder.

I knocked lightly on the door, but there was no response from inside. I could only lean on my quinoa stick and listen to the roar of the rushing river.

I often feel resentful that this body does not belong to me. When will I forget to compete for fame and wealth?

Taking advantage of the late night, calm wind, and flat river waves, I sailed on a small boat and disappeared, wandering around the rivers and lakes for the rest of my life.

Creation background: This poem was written in the third year after Su Shi was demoted to Huangzhou, that is, September of the fifth year of Yuanfeng, Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty (1082).

In the third year of Yuanfeng (1080), Su Shi was demoted to Huangzhou (today's Huanggang, Hubei) because of the Wutai Poetry Case, and lived in Lingao Pavilion on the edge of the Yangtze River in the south of the city.

Later, he opened up a piece of wasteland not far away and planted crops and trees. He named it Dongpo and called himself Dongpo layman.

He also built a house here named Snow Hall.

For Su Shi, who had endured a severe political persecution, this was the last moment of his life, and his heart was filled with anger and pain.

But he was not overwhelmed by the pain. Instead, he showed a superhuman broad-mindedness and a calm spirit that was not obsessed with the world.

Sometimes he walks in and out of the mountains in cloth clothes, and sometimes goes boating on moonlit nights and wanders among the mountains and rivers. He wants to seek the enjoyment of beauty from nature and appreciate the philosophy of life.

This is the context in which this word was created.

Appreciation: This poem was written in the fifth year of Yuanfeng Shenzong, that is, the third year after Dongpo was demoted to Huangzhou.

The style of the whole poem is clear and elegant. The author drank happily in the snow hall of Dongpo on a late autumn night, and returned to his residence in Lingao after getting drunk. It shows the poet's life ideals and attitude of withdrawing from society, despising the world, and demanding complete liberation.

The idea of ??transcendence shows the author's broad-minded and sad state of mind.

The poet meditated quietly at night, and suddenly realized that since he could not control his destiny, he should avoid disaster all over his body.

Looking at the scenery on the river in front of me, it is like "the wind is calm at night and the grain is flat". My heart and scenery meet, my spirit and things wander, and I am deeply intoxicated by such a quiet and beautiful nature.

As a result, he couldn't help but have a romantic reverie that was divorced from the real society, and sang: "The small boat will pass away from now on, and the river and sea will leave the rest of my life." He will take advantage of this beautiful scenery, ride a small boat, and go with the waves, and he will take whatever he wants.

The limited life melts into the infinite nature.
