I have been to Tengchong three times, and each time I will gain something new, whether it is scenery or food.
This time I went to Tengchong. When I stayed in the ancient town of Heshun, I noticed that the streets were full of barbecues. It was different from the previous two times. Heshun was no longer as simple and peaceful as before, but the smoke of barbecues made the ancient town smoky.
As someone who has been to Tengchong and Heshun three times, I want to responsibly tell you that barbecue is not a specialty here at all.
So what should you eat when you come to Tengchong and Heshun?
The answer is drunken driving, earthen pot, copper ladle beef, thin bean flour, bait silk, rice noodles and so on.
Let’s talk about the restaurants in Tengchong that I personally tested and recommended.
This restaurant is in Heshun. It’s such a delicious local restaurant that I actually came here three times before discovering it!
One problem that often arises when eating in scenic ancient towns is that there are Internet celebrity restaurants everywhere. Not only are the prices expensive, but the food is not authentic.
Moreover, Internet celebrity restaurants in Heshun often have a hard time. The one I only ate at last year has disappeared this year after searching.
The last meal I had before discovering Youfen was in Tengchong City to eat Tonglao Beef, because so many restaurants in Heshun Ancient Town were opened by outsiders.
This Youfen restaurant is different. It is located in the southwest of the ancient town. It has been open for many years. Many locals also go there to eat. There are so many people queuing up during meals. As soon as you enter, you can see a refrigerator on the table.
There are a lot of fresh vegetables. You can order from the menu or directly from the refrigerator.
We ordered Da Jiujia, Da Shao Pork, Pea Tips and Tofu Soup, and Lao Nai Potatoes.
Tengchong Daijiujia, also known as stir-fried bait cubes, I have to say that their Daijiujia is the most delicious Daijiujia I have ever tasted. The bait cubes are thin and tasty. Daijiujia is a must-eat delicacy in Tengchong.
It is also a must-try signature of his restaurant.
The roasted pork is a bit like fried pork belly. The skin is charred and crispy, and the meat is soft and not greasy even if it is fatty. It is also covered with sauerkraut underneath, which can be used to relieve greasiness.
Pea tips and tofu soup, the first time I drank pea tips soup was in Tengchong. Pea tips go well with meatballs or tofu soup. It is sweet and delicious, and we drank the whole basin.
Lao Nai Potatoes, traditional mashed potatoes contain some potato particles. This dish is also available in other places in Yunnan, but Youfen’s still makes it very well. It is sour and spicy, soft and waxy and sweet.
Everything is really good, and everything is very delicious. Their fried pork with matsutake mushrooms, crispy pumpkin flowers, and earthen pot are also said to be very good. You must try it next time you come.
Although I didn't eat the earthen pot this time, I have eaten it in Heshun before. It looks like a small pot, but it is actually a lot. The top layer is egg rolls, bacon, and then fried pork skin, small crispy pork,
Spare ribs and vegetables such as greens and yams should be eaten with the accompanying dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is also one of the soul~ The average cost per person is less than 50, it is really a treasure restaurant in the ancient town!
Copper Ladle Beef is a must-eat specialty delicacy in Tengchong. Copper Ladle Beef is a beef hot pot cooked in a copper pot. I was worried that the Copper Ladle Beef in Heshun Ancient Town would not be authentic if I didn’t choose it well, so I found this authentic restaurant in Tengchong City.
Tengpin Tonglao Beef.
The 128 set meal includes one portion each of yak beef, yak intestines, and yak skin, and four vegetarian dishes. The boss also put together a plate for us to eat six kinds of vegetables, including pea tips, spinach, bamboo shoot tips, mushrooms, and bean skins.
, yam.
Their beef is cut very thickly, and the amount is sufficient. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s all in the pot. Both the beef and the cowhide are stewed until they’re soft enough. As for whether it’s yak meat, I can’t tell, but it tastes good anyway.
Quite delicious.
I forgot to take a photo of the cowhide. I was so happy eating that I forgot to take too many photos.
Regarding toppings, there are oil dishes and sesame sauce, which is friendly enough for northerners. You must know that many hot pot restaurants in Yunnan do not have sesame sauce.
Heshun's morning starts with a bowl of thin bean noodles. In the ancient town, breakfast is basically served at Aunt Cun's house every day. The signature here is the thin bean noodles. If you arrive late, you won't be able to eat it.
Thin bean flour is made by grinding white peas into powder, then boiling it into a paste, and then adding condiments. You can also add roasted bait cubes or fried dough sticks to eat together.
Although there are other places in Yunnan that also eat thin soybean noodles, I personally feel that the one in Baoshan and Tengchong is the most authentic.
The fried dough sticks soaked in thin soybean flour is his signature, but I personally prefer to drink the thin soybean flour alone.
It's only available in the morning. If it's late, you won't be able to eat dilute bean flour and can only eat pea flour.
In addition, their rice noodles and bait silk are also good and not expensive. The sauerkraut in the side dishes is a highlight, and it is free. You must add it when eating rice noodles or bait silk.
In the morning, when there is no dilute soybean flour, I always come here to eat rice noodles or bait silk. The rice noodles should come early, and if I come late, there will only be bait silk.
