The most famous places in Xiamen are Gulangyu Island, Xiamen University, and Huandao Road. You can also go to Wanshi, Nanputuo, etc. It’s also good to go outside the island when you have time.
It’s free to take a boat to Gulangyu Island, but it’s 8 yuan to come back. There is no charge if you come back after 10pm or 10:30pm. Gulangyu Island is mainly for walking and eating. Shuzhuang Garden, Haoyue Garden (with the statue of Zheng Chenggong), Sunlight Rock, Aviary Garden, Aberdeen Post, Underwater World, Piano Museum, etc. are all pretty good. A single ticket seems to cost 120, and a combo ticket costs 80, which is relatively cheap. But we usually use outdoor sports cards. If you go to Gulangyu Island, just take any bus that can reach the ferry, such as No. 10, No. 30, No. 31, No. 15 and so on. For food in Gulangyu, I usually go to eat mochi. Walk forward on Longtou Road. Ye's. It used to be made by the couple, but now it seems that they are there. My son is here on Zhongshan Road. They cost one yuan each, which is very good. , but don’t keep it for a long time. Glutinous rice will become hard if left for a long time. We locals rarely go there to eat fish balls, but there is a time-honored restaurant in Gulangyu Island that is pretty good. You can buy Huang Shengji Pork Floss and Preserved Pork or something like that. Gulangyu pies are more expensive there, so why not go back to the island and buy them at Ajizai over at the Eighth Market. They are all freshly made on the same day and are delicious. In Gulangyu Island, you should buy less shells and pearls. They are available at the beach, so just pick them up yourself. As for seafood, dried goods, etc., they are cheaper on the island. When you go to Gulangyu Island, there are many food stalls in the alleys. The places are not very clean. They are all opened by the residents of Gulangyu Island, but they are all super fresh and delicious.
Both Xiamen University and Huandao Road are free of charge. The Ring Island Road is worth visiting. It is really beautiful. You can have a barbecue, tread water, swim, and ride a bicycle. You can take public transportation to the Convention and Exhibition Center, Yefengzhai, etc. You can also go to the weird slope from there, go a little past Zengcuo'an, and bike back up the slope on your own. That road leads to Jinbang Park and the train station. There is a Ling restaurant next to the railway sanatorium. It used to be a food stall. It is very fresh in Haixian. It is a little expensive, but it is worth it.
Wanshi Botanical Garden seems to cost 40 yuan now. You can go directly to Nanputuo. If you don’t want to spend 80 yuan, it is free to go up from Hongshan. It costs 3 yuan to go to Nanputuo directly from Xiamen University. . In the middle of the mountain behind Nanputuo is Puji Temple, its birthplace. It is very spiritual. I often went to worship it before the college entrance examination. If you want to go to Wanshi, you can go up to Wulaofeng, from the New Stele Forest to the Cactus Area, or from Taiping Rock to Xingfuyuan. Uncle Xiaojun who sells water on Wanshi is very nice. Their tea eggs are super delicious. If you go to Wanshi, you can take bus 87.
In fact, Xiamen Zhongshan Road, the train station, SM, etc. are all good places for shopping. If you want to eat snacks, there are many places on Zhongshan Road, such as Yuehuasha Tea Noodles, Wu Zaitian’s taro buns, small barbecue in Ding’an Night Market, Zhangzhou Braised Noodles, and Shuixian Road’s shrimp noodles. Anyway, there are delicious ones all the way. You can buy it when you see it. Although the local bamboo shoot jelly on Jukou Street is not as good as the one in the second city, it is still good. There is also a shop that makes spring rolls and cabbage at the entrance. It costs two yuan. It must be the one near Dazhong Road. There is also stinky tofu, which is completely different from the one in Hunan. The Shacha beef and fried oysters (not oyster omelets) at the Jukou entrance across from Dazhong are pretty good. The oyster omelets go to the one across the middle alley at the Jukou entrance and cost 10 yuan a piece.
There are a lot of fun things to do in Xiamen, these are just the ones I often visit. If necessary, I will write again.
