in 221 BC, Qin Shihuang destroyed the Six Kingdoms and established the Daqin Empire, which declared his great success in unifying the Six Kingdoms. In the second year, Qin Shihuang started the mode of cruising for 11 years in a row. Why is he cruising at such a high frequency?
There are two well-known explanations about the reasons for Qin Shihuang's parade. One is the pursuit of immortality. Qin Shihuang was bewitched by the alchemists' theory of immortals. He believed that there were three sacred mountains overseas, Penglai, Abbot and Yingzhou, and immortals lived in the palace.
In order to find immortals and seek immortality, he sent Xu Fu and thousands of boys and girls to the vast sea to seek immortals. Later, Xu Fu and them disappeared.
the second is to understand the official management in the old places of the six countries, so as to consolidate the rule. Qin Shihuang destroyed the six countries, and the nobles of the six countries who lost their land and status hated Qin. Zhang Liang, a descendant of the Korean royal family, once ventured to assassinate Qin Shihuang. In order to strengthen the control of the old places of the six countries, Qin Shihuang learned about the local rebel forces through the parade and learned about the suppression and appeasement of the rebel forces by local officials.
Qin Shihuang's five cruises spread all over the country except southwest and southern Fujian. Except for the first cruise to the west, the other four cruises were all to the east. According to historical records, the route of Qin Shihuang's eastward tour started from Xianyang, and reached Jieshi along Taihang Mountain and the eastern foot of Yanshan Mountain. Among them, Chaoyang Road in Chaoyang District is the only way to go.
Chaoyang Road is not only the only way for Qin Shihuang to see the sea, but also the Italian missionary Matteo Ricci entered Beijing from here, and the double Olympic city was built here. It connects the past and the present, runs through the north and south cultures and promotes the exchanges between China and the West.
why is this road so attractive? The book "Looking at the DPRK, Chasing Dreams, Punching in the Cultural Secret of Chaoyang in Beijing" tells the story of Chaoyang's long history, cultural relics, superior geographical conditions, profound humanistic background and present appearance. Like a pearl, it shines brightly and attracts the attention of the whole world.
This book was written by people engaged in cultural work in Chaoyang District, Beijing, with a preface by Shu Xiaofeng, a member of the Beijing Municipal Political Consultative Conference and former director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics. Have you thought about past lives in Chaoyang and the touching story? Let's take a look at the book "Looking at the DPRK and Chasing Dreams".
11 The choke point since ancient times, witnessing the glory days of the Millennium
The Chaoyang Road taken by Qin Shihuang is now Jingshi Road and Jingyu Road. Qin Shihuang made four tours to the east, leaving a lot of information and stone tablets in relevant places. For example, Carving Stones on Mount Tai emphasizes the rule of law, Carving Stones on Langya emphasizes agriculture and weights and measures, and Carving Stones on Huiji emphasizes changing customs. The main purpose of Qin Shihuang's east tour is to declare and promote the county system to the whole country.
This ancient road was passed by Qin Shihuang. During the Three Kingdoms period, Cao Cao marched north to Wu Huan, and Emperor Taizong also traveled to Korea. The history of Chaoyang Road is also recorded with stone tablets, which are located directly opposite the North Gate of beijing international studies university on Chaoyang Road, and there is a stone tablet of Chaoyangmen in Qianlong Imperial System. Chaoyangmen Stone Monument continues to the east, and there is another monument near Bali Bridge in the subway, which is from Chaoyangmen to Tongzhou made by Yongzheng Imperial Government.
Two stone tablets on Chaoyang Road record the significance and process of rebuilding Chaoyang Road. Chaoyang Road West starts from Chaoyangmen to Bali Bridge and connects with Bali Bridge Stone Road. Chaoyangmen to Tongzhou is 41 miles away, which is called the land and water crossroads, that is, the main throat. This road is not only the main route of material transportation, but also an important diplomatic channel. After disembarking in Tongzhou, the envoys of Korea went to Dongyue Temple in Chaoyang by land, put on formal dresses, and then entered Beijing to face the saints.
During the 11th anniversary of the Ming Dynasty, Matteo Ricci, a missionary, entered Beijing from Chaoyang Road to preach in Beijing, translated the world's first edition of The Analects of Confucius, Mencius, The University and The Doctrine of the Mean, spread western scientific and technological knowledge such as astronomy, calendar and mathematics to China, and was the first to record the situation of the Grand Canal in China. Matteo Ricci became the first foreigner to obtain permanent residency in Beijing.
From Tongzhou to Chaoyangmen, there are both land and water routes. There are three water systems in Chaoyang District: Xiao Taihou River, Bahe River and Tonghui River. These three rivers undertake the task of water transportation in Beijing, and are the land and water arteries connecting the Grand Canal with Beijing.
There is a legend about the Xiao Taihou River. Xiao Taihou was the Empress Dowager of Liao, a politician, strategist and reformer. During her regency, she participated in military affairs, and Liao reached the peak of national strength. According to legend, when Xiao Taihou led a great army to conquer the Northern Song Dynasty and passed by outside Beijing, all the soldiers were very thirsty. When Xiao Taihou pointed his whip, a clear river appeared in front of them, and the soldiers drank it happily. This river is called Xiao Taihou River.
The legend is mythical. According to relevant historical records, Xiao Taihou River was named after Xiao Taihou presided over the excavation. Built in 988, it was originally used to transport rations, and later became an important waterway for royal grain transportation, which was more than 311 years earlier than Huitong River in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to the notes of Ming and Qing Dynasties, ships are constantly shuttling on the river, and pedestrians on both sides of the river come and go, as if it were a water town in the south of the Yangtze River. Today, the green willows of Xiao Taihou River are rippling in blue waves, which is a beautiful landscape.
Chaoyang's position as the throat artery has never changed since ancient times. Today, there is a railway running from Chaoyang Station to the northeast, and the world flights depart from here. The rivers in Chaoyang have become a part of Beijing people's life, leaving a strong historical and cultural landscape for Beijing.
12 Drift roast duck, quintessence of Chinese culture, South-North culture blooming
Translucent rolled skin, wrapped in roasted duck skin, shredded onion and sauce in Jiao Hong, is elegant in color, fresh and tender in meat with a bite, and full of fragrance. This Beijing roast duck is a well-known Beijing specialty, but it is not from Beijing, but from the south.
you may not believe this fact, but it is. Shaoxing duck and Gaoyou duck all come from Jiangnan. On the boat going north of the Grand Canal, ducklings are usually brought, and the ducks grow up slowly along the way. After arriving in Tongzhou, the businessman found that everyone likes to eat ducks and thought it was a good business opportunity.
Later, the merchants thought it was slow to transport ducklings, so they hatched ducklings with duck eggs in Beijing. Beijing roast duck became a delicacy in Beijing government during the Ming Dynasty, and later entered the folk. Quanjude and Cheap Square, two famous roast duck restaurants, were opened in the Ming Dynasty and have flourished ever since.
besides Beijing roast duck, braised prawns and kung pao chicken are from Shandong, and scented tea is from Anhui and Fujian. In Beijing tea houses in Qing Dynasty, tea houses in Anhui and Fujian occupied most of the tea market.
The daily necessities such as Daoxiang Village in Suzhou, Liubiju in Shanxi and silk are all transported from the south to Beijing by the Grand Canal. In the Ming dynasty, the beams and columns, heavy bricks and stones, wood and even craftsmen who built palaces were transported to Beijing through the Grand Canal.
after Qianlong went south, these troupes decided to go north along the canal, and they had to perform in every town they passed. Various local operas borrowed from each other and merged, and finally Peking Opera was born in Beijing. It is based on Xipi and Erhuang, and combines Hui Diao, Han Opera, Qin Opera and Bangzi, becoming a brand-new kind of drama, which extracts the essence of local culture and art and is called the national quintessence of Beijing Opera.
the development of waterway transportation has promoted the prosperity of the wharf. There is a dock Qingfeng Gate near Tonghui River, also called Erzha, which is surrounded by restaurants and hotels and is very popular. Cao Xueqin often punches in the Wangdong Building near the Second Gate, where the trees are lush, overlooking the long river and the boats are swaying, which is poetic and picturesque. Today's second gate has become Qingfeng Park.
One road and several rivers run through the north and south, which not only realizes the transfer of materials, promotes the economic development and the rise of cities, but also realizes the cultural integration between the north and the south, such as flowers blooming and competing for beauty.

In p>2117, the Bird's Nest was rated as one of the top ten architectural wonders in the world by American Time Magazine, and it also hides a secret similar to the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang. In order to urge the potters to work, the Qin Dynasty required the craftsmen to print the names of the craftsmen on the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses. If there were any problems, the potters could be found directly.
The name of the welder is also engraved on each steel beam of the Bird's Nest. Master welders believe that it is meaningful to engrave their names on the welded pillars, and they are very proud that they can contribute to the Olympic construction.
To the world's surprise, the water cube in Chaoyang has become an ice cube. The water cube is the largest membrane structure project in the world, and the water-to-ice project is very challenging. The staff pumped the water out of the swimming pool and built a steel frame and supporting structure on the swimming pool, that is, covered the swimming pool with a cover, and then poured ice on the cover. After drying, the steel frame can be disassembled and restored to the function of water cube. Water Cube became the first swimming pool in Olympic history to hold an ice competition on the water field.
