Located at the northern end of Sulawesi Island (north latitude 1.29 minutes, east longitude 124.50 minutes), near the Sulawesi Sea. Manado is always the second largest city in Sulawesi.
The word Manado comes from "manaro" in Sangill, which literally means "faraway place". At first, it was used to refer to two small islands visible to the naked eye from Manado. The residents of these two small islands later moved to Minahasa Peninsula on the other side, so the name "Manado" gradually became the name of their new residence. The original two islands were renamed "Little Ma Naduo Tuya".
