South Asia Tropical Botanical Garden, located by Huguang Rock in Zhanjiang, is an integrated unit of scientific research, popular science and tourism development under the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences. Founded in 1954, it is an important scientific research base for crops in the south subtropical region of China, as well as a designated tourist base in Guangdong Province and a popular science education base for teenagers in Zhanjiang City. There are more than 8 kinds of rare trees in the world, such as Indian rosewood, Phoebe bournei, Indonesian cinnamon and rain tree, as well as spice and beverage plants such as pepper, coffee, cinnamon, sandalwood and ylang ylang, as well as one of the most poisonous plants in the world-Nepenthes, an insect-catching plant, an anticancer plant, Camptotheca acuminata, more than 8 kinds of rare palm plants, and more than 4 varieties of desert plants and tropical flowers with different shapes.

The Botanical Garden integrates research, sightseeing and dissemination of plant knowledge, attracting a large number of students from both inside and outside the province to study popular science and understand the diversity and wonder of the plant world.
