Volunteer in China: Aid to Africa has added a lot of color to my life.
At this time last year, organized by Shandong Youth League Committee, 15 young volunteers who helped Africa came to Zimbabwe, a beautiful landlocked country in Africa, and began to live with the local people. A few days ago, these 15 volunteers returned to China one after another. Among them, two young teachers from Shandong Normal University, Liu Chen and Song Bi-directional reporters, talked about their life in Zimbabwe for one year. As volunteers engaged in Chinese teaching, Liu Chen and Song Shuang, young teachers of Shandong Normal University, were assigned to the Confucius Institute of Zimbabwe University in Harare, Zimbabwe. Although the Confucius Institute was established in June 2006, it never started classes. Tianjin University originally planned to start classes after the full-time Chinese teachers sent by China arrived in Tianjin, but after contacting them for a few days, Tianjin University decided to hand over the important task of implementing the teaching work of Confucius Institute to these two volunteers. Before leaving, Liu Chen and Song Shuang made full preparations: they studied in Shanshi International Exchange College for a period of time and bought a set of Chinese textbooks suitable for different courses at their own expense. According to the requirements of the school and the analysis of the actual situation, they decided to set up short-term Chinese training courses for social enrollment, made corresponding enrollment and teaching plans, and wrote enrollment advertisements and brochures. On March 5th, 2007, the first Chinese training class started smoothly, and Liu Chen became the first Chinese teacher. On March 16, the opening ceremony of the fourth Confucius Institute in Africa, the Confucius Institute of Zimbabwe University, was held. "When my 25 African students and I were introduced to all the guests present, my students sang China's traditional folk song Jasmine. When the song started, the guests were very surprised and stared at us. " Liu Wei said. As the song sounded, the surprised expression was immediately replaced by a happy smile. China's Ambassador to Zimbabwe Yuan Nansheng and Zimbabwe's Minister of Education smiled from ear to ear. Afterwards, the guests observed the classroom teaching in Liu Chen. After class, Ambassador Yuan came over and shook Liu Chen's hand to express his thanks. It is understood that Liu Chen's apartment in Tianjin University is frequently cut off from water and electricity. Since June, water has been cut off once a week on average, and the most serious one has been without a drop of water or electricity for more than ten days. They accumulate all kinds of bottles and jars and brush the bathtub to store water. "Some teammates joked that the water consumption of the two of us is four bathtubs a month." Liu Wei said. When the power went out, they bought firewood to make a fire and cook. The traffic is inconvenient, so they walk or get on the minibus when they go out. A nine-seater minibus often squeezes more than 20 people and is often bitten by fleas covered with ankles. Because the internet was blocked, their mailbox had not been opened for almost a year, and it was difficult to make a phone call, so they picked up a pen and wrote a letter to their parents to report their safety. "When I face this life that is completely different from China positively and optimistically, I find that all kinds of difficulties constitute a wonderful variation of life, which makes our life more colorful and interesting." Liu Wei said. Wang Haiying
