Huayangosaurus lived in the middle Jurassic. The first fossils of Huayangosaurus were discovered at the Dashanpu Dinosaur Fauna Fossil Site in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, my country. It was named "Huayangosaurus" because Sichuan Province was called Huayang in ancient times.
In the early Jurassic, stegosaurs may have appeared, and scientists' understanding of early stegosaurs mainly started with Huayangosaurus unearthed from Dashanpu, Zigong, Sichuan, my country.
Huayanglong is nearly 4 meters long, with a relatively small head. It is triangular when viewed from above and taller than the back when viewed from the side. It has small teeth, like leaves, and canine-like teeth at the front of its mouth. It weighs 1 to 4 tons.
If you compare it with Shulong, Chieflong and Emeilong that lived in the same era and the same area, Huayanglong appears to be too short.
So while those giant dinosaurs feasted on leaves from tall trees, Huayangosaurus could only eat lower plants closer to the ground.
Perhaps because of its frequent contact with land, the limbs of Huayangosaurus are well adapted to life on land. The forelimbs are shorter than the hind limbs. The front feet have five fingers, the hind feet have four fingers, and there are flat claws at the ends of the fingers (toes).
They generally live in jungles along lakeside rivers, and the young leaves of shrubs are usually their food.
Huayanglong has sword plates of various shapes, a round peach-shaped neck, and a spear-like back and tail, arranged symmetrically on the left and right.
The symmetrical arrangement of the canine teeth and sword plates of Huayangosaurus reflects the primitiveness of Huayangosaurus. Among the dinosaurs discovered so far, Huayangosaurus is the most primitive stegosaurus, so it is very important for studying the origin and evolution of Stegosaurus.
, Huayangosaurus itself provides important evidence, which is of great significance to the study of Stegosaurus.
Although Huayanglong has a shorter body, it has a unique defensive weapon, which are the long spines growing on its shoulders, waist and the tip of its tail.
When the air dragon attacks the Huayang dragon, the Huayang dragon will point the long spines on its body towards the attacker and violently beat the enemy with its long spines tail.
Although this cannot kill the attackers, it is enough to give them a strong warning and deterrent, causing those invaders to give up the pursuit of Huayang Dragon and look for other prey that is easier to deal with.
In the middle Jurassic, rivers were usually covered with dense green carpets of dwarf ferns. There were no tall trees in such places, so when Huayangosaurus ate here, their babies often became predators such as air dragons.
The target of the raid, as long as the little Huayanglong is closely following its parents, the predators still dare not act rashly.
There, Huayang Dragon's protection of children is essential.
