Park Development
In the southern suburbs of Guiyang, about 17 kilometers upstream of the Nanming River, is the famous Huaxi Scenic Area. The original name of Huaxi is "Hua Gelao", which is related to the fact that the Gelao people once lived here. In the eleventh year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty (1638 AD), Xu Xiake traveled from Guiyang to Changshun. In the "Diary of Travels to Guizhou" AD, there are five records of places where the West China River flows, but unfortunately there are too few. According to legend, during the Jiaqing and Daoguang years of the Qing Dynasty, Zhou Kui, a local teacher in Baiyang Village, passed the imperial examination examinations for five high schools in sixty-five years. Zhou Jiaxi had a beautiful land, so he built a building in Linshan, a pavilion in Guishan, planted cypresses in Sheshan, decorated it with double pavilions, piled rocks in the river to make a dam, stored water into a pond, sparse vermilion to make a continent, and repaired gaps to make an island. Zhou Kui's eldest son Zhou also completed a palace renovation and named it "Jianhuacaotang". From then on, the landscape of West China began to shine. From 1938 to 1939, Liu Jianxun, the county magistrate of Zhuzhou, turned the Fanghezhou area into a scenic spot and changed the name of "Huage Lao" to "Huaxi". In 1940, the Guizhou Provincial Government built Zhongzheng Park on this basis, which is now Huaxi Park. It has the characteristics of four mountains, one water, and four mountains. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, they depend on each other and complement each other.
