What is life like in Cixi Detention Center?

Each cell is about 30 square meters, with a row of bunks. Each cell houses more than 20 to 40 people. Of course, there are also times when more than 50 people live. At this time, some people need to sleep on the ground.

There is about a bedroll space for each person, but it is quite crowded. Some people involved told me that sometimes after returning from using the toilet at night, they find that the space is gone.

2. Three meals a day are free, but the time is relatively early. I eat after four in the afternoon. The food does not taste good, and the oil and water are not good. One client told me that he had eaten instant noodles for two weeks (

bought), many people will be hungry at night.

3. Go to bed early and get up early. There is a nap time at noon. Of course, some people can't stand the snoring and it will be more painful. After all, among dozens of people, there are always some who snore like thunder, but generally speaking, the rest time is enough.

The lights in the cell are not turned off at night, and there are two people on duty who cannot sleep. Each shift lasts about three hours.

4. There is no need to work in the labor detention center, and there is no need to string beads or the like, but the cell needs to be cleaned and the floor mopped, so being on duty does not mean anything in general.

5. Bathing varies from detention center to detention center. Many detention centers can only use cold water for bathing and cannot wash it every day (including in summer). Women with mysophobia or special hygiene will feel very painful in there.

6. There is a squatting pit in the prison. For many people, it is painful to go to the toilet in front of so many people. Many female clients and I reported constipation in it. Of course, this may be due to diet or psychological reasons.

It would be too bad if you encounter diarrhea. After all, there is only one place for so many people.

7. Entertainment Basically every cell has a TV, but some cells have some problems with the TV and have not fixed it, such as no sound or unclear. Some can be played on weekends, and some can be played at night, usually with video channels.

In some cells, you can also play chess and the like.

8. Reading. Many people who don’t like reading will read in there because it is too boring. There are no mobile phones and the time to watch TV is limited. Some people stay in there for several months. The most painful thing is no longer the living environment.

It’s about the emptiness of the brain and the need to obtain information and pass the time, so books are the best choice. Some detention centers will provide some books left by previous people, and some cells require family members to send them. Of course, everyone in the cell has books.

They will also borrow from each other.

9. There is no canteen in the shopping detention center, but you can open a large account once or twice on a fixed date every month (each detention center has a limit, generally no more than 600 yuan per month). This is a bit similar to group buying, you can buy some ham

Intestines, Shaqima instant noodles, chicken legs and so on.

People outside may not realize how painful it is to have no money in your account inside.
