Comparison between Guangzhou and Shenzhen from a civilian perspective

Introduction: Written in the fifth year since I came to Shenzhen. Unknowingly, I have been working in Shenzhen for the fifth year. I have always wanted to write about this city, but I have no idea where to start. I always feel that my understanding of it is not comprehensive enough.

Take advantage of the special Spring Festival of 2020 and give it a try.

I have lived in the four major first-tier cities in the north, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Puning, Hangzhou, and Wuhan. I was born and raised in Guangzhou. Shenzhen has entered its fifth year, Puning for half a year, and others for 1-3 months.

I have lived in Guangzhou and Shenzhen for the longest time. These two seemingly similar southern cities have many differences. Here is a brief summary and comparison from a civilian perspective: Guangzhou: covers an area of ??7249.2 square kilometers.

The permanent population is 14.498 million, and the floating population is more than 10 million.

Shenzhen: Covers an area of ??1,997.3 square kilometers, has a permanent population of 12.528 million, and a floating population of more than 7 million.

There is not much difference in the permanent population between Shenzhen and Guangzhou, but the land area of ??Shenzhen is only less than one-third of Guangzhou. Therefore, Shenzhen is actually a very crowded city that needs more high-rise buildings. It is also a city that is gradually "Hong Kong-like".

City Positioning Guangzhou: The first city in the South in modern times, the "Southern Gate" open to the outside world, the only port in the world that has not declined in 2000, the capital of Guangdong Province, a transportation hub city in the Pearl River Delta, and an international business center.

Shenzhen: The circle drawn by Comrade Xiaoping, the window of reform and opening up, a municipality directly under the Central Government of Guangdong Province, a scientific and technological innovation city, and a pioneer demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Guangzhou is the senior front-line big brother, and Shenzhen is the new front-line brother. Although it is said on the Internet that Shenzhen has surpassed Guangzhou, I personally think that this still needs to be compared comprehensively.

Economic Structure Guangzhou: The industrial economy includes industry, trade circulation and service industry, finance industry, agriculture, transportation and postal industry, information industry, construction and real estate industry, and foreign economic and trade.

Shenzhen: The industrial structure has "three main areas": economic growth is mainly based on emerging industries, industry is mainly based on advanced manufacturing, and tertiary industries are mainly based on modern service industries.

The four pillar industries are cultural and creative industries, high-tech industries, modern logistics industry, and financial industry; strategic emerging industries include biological industry, new energy industry, Internet industry, etc.

Guangzhou's industrial structure is relatively rich, while Shenzhen's is relatively simple; Guangzhou has high overall scores, while Shenzhen has high individual scores.

Both have good business environments, but Shenzhen is more suitable for ambitious entrepreneurs.

Intra-city transportation Guangzhou: Public transportation is developed and convenient. Yangchengtong offers a 40% discount after 15 trips per month. Students and the elderly are even more discounted, but there are traffic jams during peak hours.

Urban planning is poor, with a large number of one-way lanes in the old city, narrow roads, serious traffic jams in many sections, and flooding on rainy days. Parking spaces are tight and parking fees are high. Therefore, pragmatic Guangzhou people prefer to take public transportation to save time.

and money.

Shenzhen: All public transportation is 15% off. It is the latest city among the first-tier cities to build subways. During peak hours, the queues at some subway stations line up outside the subway entrance. Most of the time, there are seats on the buses, but the driving skills of the driver will test the heart.

Due to excellent urban planning and the strictest enforcement of traffic rules in the country, traffic jams are relatively less serious, parking fees are relatively cheap, and more people tend to drive themselves.

In addition, young people in Nanshan District are also popular in using electric scooters for transportation~ Generally speaking, the cost of transportation in Shenzhen is relatively high.

Intercity transportation Guangzhou: a famous transportation hub city, friendly within the Greater Bay Area, especially friendly to Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, and Zhongshan.

Shenzhen: It is adjacent to Hong Kong, so a day trip is not a dream. It is particularly friendly to Dongguan, Huizhou, and Hong Kong. But the current situation in Hong Kong... In the future, the transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will become more and more developed and convenient, so the gap between the two is not big.

Household registration system Guangzhou: The indigenous people have never applied for household registration, which is relatively more difficult than Shenzhen.

Shenzhen: In the stage of actively attracting talents, qualified highly educated talents (undergraduate degree or above, under 30 years old) will receive government subsidies, and it is friendly to young people and fresh graduates.

Urban household registration policies are adjusted every year, but Guangzhou and Shenzhen are generally much friendlier than Beijing and Shanghai.

Both government agencies are gradually transforming into service-oriented government agencies. Their attitudes are relatively friendly and there is not much difference. However, Shenzhen’s civil servants are younger and their execution efficiency is higher. Many things can be done on the same day. Compared with Beijing, it is much better.

Got it!

Urban Planning Guangzhou: The worst among the first-tier cities, unfriendly to road addicts.

Administrative districts are mainly divided by function, resulting in concentrated population movements and the problem of traffic jams that has never been eradicated.

Shenzhen: More modern. The administrative districts are mainly divided by industry. Public transportation facilities are relatively complete to meet the needs of daily life. There is basically no need to cross districts. The roads are wide and square, and the roads are friendly.

Urban planning must be more in line with the needs of social development in newer cities. However, Guangzhou's urban planners at that time really lacked a long-term development perspective, and the traffic problem has never been cured.
