Mao Xiaoqing's father, Mao Zelian, was Mao Zedong's ninth cousin, 20 years younger than Mao Zedong.

Born in Shaoshan in 1954, he joined the army at the age of 16 and later entered Guilin Army School to study cable carrier major.

After graduation, he was still a soldier. Neither the unit commander nor his comrades knew that Mao Xiaoqing was Mao Zedong's niece.

People often ask: Xiaoqing, your surname is Mao and you are from Shaoshan. You must be related to Chairman Mao.

Mao Xiaoqing always said with a smile: There are many people named Mao in Shaoshan!

In 1976, Mao Xiaoqing returned to his hometown from the army and worked as an engineering technician at the Hunan Broadcasting Equipment Factory.

A few years later, he was transferred to the Oriental Hotel under the Hunan Tourism Bureau as assistant to the general manager, in charge of catering.

In 1996, Mao Xiaoqing opened the first "Mao Xiaoqing Food City" in Beijing, and later developed it into multiple chain stores.

Today, Mao Xiaoqing is also a director of the Mao Zedong Poetry Research Society and the deputy secretary-general of the Mao Zedong Health Food Culture Research Society.
