On the contrary, most of his famous works were written during his demotion. More importantly, Su Shi also lived a pleasant life in exile. He went and ate wherever he went. When he ate delicious food, he would not miss Shu (Su Shi was really from Sichuan). He actually fell in love with the place where he was relegated and couldn't bear to leave.
While being demoted to Huangzhou, Su Shi invented Dongpo Pork and wrote "Ode to Pork".
Su Shi’s first stop for being demoted was Huangzhou, which is now Huangzhou District, Huanggang City, Hubei Province. Having just escaped from death in the "Wutai Poetry Case", he did not lose his elegance at all. When the Yangtze River goes around Guo, you will know the beauty of the fish, and the mountains with good bamboos will feel the fragrance of bamboo shoots

When he came to Huangzhou where he was demoted, what Su Shi saw was neither poverty nor desolation, but "beautiful fish" and "fragrant bamboo shoots". This is Su Shi, who loves food and life, and never loses his enthusiasm and love.
The fourth year of Huangzhou was Su Shi's creative spurt period. Most of his famous works were born here, such as the well-known "Niannujiao? Chibi Nostalgic", "Ding Fengbo? Don't listen to Lin Da" "Ye Sheng", "Previous Chibi Ode", "Later Chibi Ode", "Night Tour of Chengtian Temple", etc. Among them, there are also many delicious food masterpieces, the most typical of which is "Ode to Pork":

Su Shi was very poor during the Huangzhou period, but as a foodie, he enjoyed all kinds of meat. Since he could not afford mutton, he could only eat pork that was as cheap as dirt. At that time, rich people refused to eat pork, and poor people did not know how to cook pork. In order to satisfy his greed, Su Shi even figured out a unique cooking method. The pork he made was soft, glutinous and delicious. This is what we call Dongpo Pork today. In "Ode to Pork", when you clean the pan, if there is less water, the firewood stick will not produce smoke. Don't rush it until it's cooked. When the heat is sufficient, it'll be perfect. This is the core method of cooking Dongpo Pork.

While being demoted to Huizhou, Su Shi still couldn't afford mutton. In order to satisfy his greed, he could only buy the remaining sheep spines home. Although there is no meat in the lamb spine, fortunately Su Shi is good at making delicacies. In "Yu Zi You Shu", Su Shi taught his younger brother Su Che the exclusive secret recipe for roasting lamb scorpions. The approximate method is to cook the lamb spine. Water, sprinkle with wine, sprinkle with salt, roast until slightly charred, although there is less meat, it tastes delicious, like crab.
While being demoted to Danzhou, Su Shi became obsessed with oysters and wrote "Eating Oysters".
The third stop where Su Shi was demoted was Danzhou, which is now Hainan Island. Eating seafood has only been popular in the southeastern coastal areas since ancient times. As an inland person, Su Shi would never have such a good taste if he had not been demoted. During his banishment to Danzhou, Su Shi enjoyed eating seafood, and his favorite was oysters, or oysters, which we Dalian people call "sea oysters".
Su Shi wrote an article "Eating Oysters". The content is very simple: Haiman offered oysters, cut them open, and obtained several liters. The meat and pulp were mixed with wine and cooked. The food was so delicious that it has never been seen before.
