Guangdong Institute of Petrochemical Technology is a public undergraduate university jointly established by Guangdong Provincial People's Government, China Petrochemical Group, China Petroleum and Natural Gas Group and China Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd., the only petrochemical university in South China, a pilot university of "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, and a high-level university of science and engineering in Guangdong Province, with a master's degree awarding unit.

The school is located in the beautiful coastal city of Maoming, Guangdong Province, which is the largest petrochemical production base and fruit production base in the south of China. It covers an area of 1 359,600 square meters (about 2040 mu) and is divided into three campuses: Guandu, Xicheng and Guanghua.
