It is said that in Xia Yu's time, Dayu came to Jiujiang to repair water and organize the masses to cure the flood. The local people were very grateful to Dayu, but there was nothing good to contribute to the famine.

So the villagers turned their eyes to the high mountains and dense forests, dug wild sweet potatoes to make skins, killed wild animals to make stuffing with their meat, and wrapped them into a kind of food, which was pointed and rounded in appearance, named a whistle and served Dayu. Dayu and everyone found it delicious after eating it. Since then, people who repair water can make and love to eat whistles, which has been passed down from generation to generation.

Later, a banquet was given in the Imperial Palace of Ai Hou of Shang Dynasty in this county, which was greatly appreciated by Su Dongpo and Ouyang Xiu, and was brought into the Qing Palace by Emperor Wan Chengfeng. After tasting it, Daoguang Emperor was listed as a tribute.
