Hainan, located at the southernmost tip of China's territory, is connected with many islands in the South China Sea, including a vast sea area equivalent to 1.4 of China's land area. Nansha Islands in the south define the southernmost border of China, and Qiongzhou Strait in the north separates Hainan Island from the mainland.

Our journey starts from the north and explores how volcanoes shape islands.
