Reading Notes of Kingdom of Childhood
? A big problem in children's education is that the process of human growth is a process of constant forgetting. Up to now, we have only fragments and remnants of our childhood experiences, feelings and ideas. Even these remnants and fragments are vague, so it is difficult for us to establish a deep and detailed understanding of our childhood growth process. Moreover, this problem has not changed greatly with the development of science and technology. We can record the images and sounds from birth to growth with sound and video, but we can never remember what we felt when we first ate cookies, not to mention what impact this feeling brought to ourselves.

? In the author's view, the core of education for children is based on the observation and understanding of children's souls. Thanks to the continuous development of medicine, we know exactly what kind of nutrition children need at different ages to help their bodies grow. However, it is always difficult to give a satisfactory answer to such questions as how our thinking grows and how our cognition of the outside world and ourselves grows.

? I think the educational theory established by Montessori stems from her mathematics and medical education. Therefore, it is more inclined to let the brain and body grow in a more correct way, in which the raised soul seems to be a by-product. However, Steiner's core theory is the soul, which sounds strongly religious, but it seems to be the best way for us at present in the face of irreversible uncertainty.

? People have souls, souls need to grow, and souls have characteristics. When we recognize these three points, and then observe the education that children receive now, we will find that most children are being treated incorrectly. Because we think that children's satiety is more important than children's happiness, (in fact, it is very important), we think that children should mature with age (we don't admit that we may degenerate with age), and we think that a single score is the most important for children themselves (not when facing social survival). Not only are children not treated correctly, but we also don't treat ourselves in the right way. But when we can't calm our inner needs, our souls are in pain, and when our souls can't control their actions, our souls are weak. How to nourish the child's soul correctly is a problem Steiner tried to solve. First of all, the teacher must have enough observation to observe what the child needs inside, what the state is and what will not change. Secondly, the teacher's own soul should be pure, beautiful and powerful enough to serve as the closest example when communicating with children wholeheartedly. Finally, teachers should create their own courses based on their own internal characteristics. Moreover, as parents and teachers, we must be able to provide children with nourishment for the soul (the author calls it milk of soil). This is an easy metaphor. We all know that the food people eat when they are young is to lay the foundation for their bodies. Then the nourishment that the soul receives when it is weak provides the basic raw materials for its subsequent growth. So what is the best nourishment? The virtue, wisdom and willpower that naturally emerge from those who bring up children should be regarded as part of it. Moreover, respecting the general characteristics means the diversification of courses, and painting, music, dancing, stories and other means can serve a certain teaching goal (such as literacy), which is in line with the saying that "everyone is unique". Since everyone is unique, every teacher is unique, and similarly, no class should be unique. Now the problem is uniform repetition in schools.

The growth of soul needs not only nourishment but also space. This is why it uses a lot of abstract props in the teaching process. For example, gouache with only accumulated colors, dolls without facial details and single-color background pictures, lack of specific descriptions of stories. When there are no details, children will use their own imagination and cognition to fill in these details, which is to give the soul space for activities and the active interaction between the soul and the outside world. But the lack of details does not mean simplicity and randomness, and behind it should represent beautiful abstraction. Just like when you look at the map of your hometown, every time you move your eyes to a point, you don't care what color the intersection is marked with, but you will think of how you have walked through it over and over again since you were a child. The graceful skeleton gives the soul a place to stay, while the remaining space gives the soul a space to run or take a nap. Conversely, once the details are completely filled, the soul can only become a stuffed recipient, which may be why some people still learn a lot when they are young, but they still can't see the sunshine on their faces.

May every child be treated correctly, and may every wronged adult find a way to redeem himself.
