The word "want" in the phrase "the roadwalkers want to break their souls" means "wanting", and the phrase "wanting" describes a deep sadness, as if the soul is about to be separated from the body. This poem is from the Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu's "Qingming", the original text of which reads: "The rain falls one after another during the Qingming Festival, and the pedestrians on the road want to break their souls. The meaning of the old poem "Qingming":

Jiangnan Qingming Festival rain flurries sprinkled, on the road pedestrians are broken souls; ask the local people where to buy wine to drown their sorrows? The shepherd boy smiled but did not answer and pointed to the apricot blossom mountain village.

Ching Ming: one of the twenty-four solar terms, around the fifth day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar. The old custom on that day is to sweep tombs, trekking in the green and planting willows and other activities.
