Tongli, an ancient water town, is located in the east of the ancient canal on the bank of Taihu Lake. It was founded in the Song Dynasty and has a history of 1000 years. It is 0/8km away from Suzhou/Kloc-and 80km away from Shanghai. It is one of the six famous water towns in the south of the Yangtze River, with an area of 33 hectares, surrounded by five lakes, and the town is divided into seven islands by reticular rivers. The ancient town has beautiful scenery and is surrounded by water on all sides. It is the earliest and only ancient town in Jiangsu Province that regards the whole town as a cultural relic protection unit. 1995 was listed as the first batch of famous historical and cultural towns in Jiangsu province. 1998 Tongli water town and tuisi garden were included in the preparatory list of world cultural heritage.

There are many rivers and bridges in the ancient town of Tongli, and there are more than 40 large and small bridges, most of which were built in various times after the Song Dynasty.
