Guilin institute of tourism was founded in 1985, formerly known as guilin institute of tourism, and 1994 was named "guilin institute of tourism". In 20 15, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 20021,it became a university established by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It is two independent full-time public tourism undergraduate colleges in China.
The school has two campuses, Yanshan Campus and Kailuan Campus, with a total campus area of 1.2572 million square meters (1.885 mu), and ordinary full-time students 1.205, including 9235 undergraduates.
The school is a key supporting unit established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization in China, and it is a member of the Education Committee, a member of the World Tourism Alliance, an "excellent partner for training high-end tourism talents" of the Asian Development Bank and a "five-star alliance" unit of China Tourism College.
It is also the carrier unit of China ASEAN Tourism Talent Education and Training Base and China Tourism Institute ASEAN Tourism Research Base, the initiator and secretary-general unit of China ASEAN Tourism Education Alliance (CATEA), the national continuing education base for professional and technical personnel, and the only university that has won the "National Tourism Poverty Alleviation Training Base" and the national research-oriented tourism instructor training base.
