The current NBA Pelicans and Hornets are not the same team.

The predecessor of the current New Orleans Pelicans is actually the Sherlock Hornets. They moved to New Orleans during the 2001-02 season and were called the New Orleans Hornets. Later, the New Orleans Hornets changed owners, and the new owner changed the name of the New Orleans Hornets to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The current Hornets team is actually the Bobcats team established in 2004, and the team is very young. After the Sherlock Hornets moved to New Orleans, Sherlock no longer had an NBA team, so they rebuilt the Bobcats. Later, the New Orleans Hornets changed their name to the New Orleans Pelicans, and Jordan changed the name of the Bobcats to the Hornets.
