Did Su Shi taste potatoes or tofu in Song Dynasty?
Su Shi, a gourmet in Song Dynasty, once tasted tofu.

story

It is said that tofu was accidentally invented by Liu An, the son of Liu Bang, the grandson of Emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty, when he was making an alchemist. He made tofu with gypsum and bean juice. This invention gradually spread in the Song and Ming Dynasties and became an indispensable part of China's food culture.

At the same time, potatoes, also known as potatoes, originated in Peru and Chile in South America, and were not introduced to China until the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty.

Su Shi is a scholar who has a deep love for food. He has made outstanding contributions to food creation. His notes record many foods he invented, including Dongpo tofu. However, in Su Shi's time, potatoes had not been introduced to China, so he did not taste potatoes.

Su Shi and the Origin of Food

Su Shi (1037 1 August 8th-1kloc-0/August 24th, 2008), whose names are Zizhan and Hezhong, was named Tieguan Taoist and Dongpo layman, and was known as Su Dongpo, Su Xian and Poxian.

During Su Shi's demotion to Huangzhou, Su Shi often visited the Western Hills across the river in addition to "the amusement of Chibi". One day, the monks of Lingquan Temple in Xishan specially made a kind of fried cake to treat this famous man, and invited him to eat it.

After tasting it, Su Shi felt that this kind of cake was crisp and fragrant, melted in the mouth, and had a long aftertaste. He praised it and personally mentioned the word "Dongpo cake" for this kind of cake, which has been preserved ever since.
