The White Gourami (Latin name: Argyrosomus argentatus Houttuyn) is a fish of the genus White Gourami in the family Staphylinidae. The mouth of the white goo is anteriorly positioned and obliquely shaped. Maxillary external and mandibular internal teeth are larger. No whiskers. Three pairs of small pores on the chin. Gill pores large. Cephalic body covered with pectinate scales, dorsal and anal fins with a row of scale sheaths. A deep concavity between the two dorsal fins. Second anal fin spine approximately equal to eye diameter. Pectoral fins lateral. Ventral fin pectoral. Caudal fin short cuneate. Dorsal side pale gray, lower side silvery white. First dorsal fin yellowish gray. Rear dorsal fin with a white longitudinal stripe, even fins yellowish, caudal fin grayish. Lower-middle marine fish. Reproductive aggregations migrate inshore.1 It is a non-toxic, economic food fish.
