In the late Qing Dynasty, Dongliushui Street in Jinan, Quancheng was the production center of Ejiao in China. According to the Records of Jinan Traditional Chinese Medicine (page 242), Ejiao produced by Hongjitang at that time was the best in both quality and yield. There is also a related statement below.
There are four traditional production techniques of Hongjitang Ejiao: Yishui (water saving), Pierre (Dezhou donkey skin), Tripartite (exclusive formula) and Orthogonal (original "nine-day refining method", referred to as "nine-day refining method"). CCTV4' s "Walking Around China" column "Revived Chewing Gum" made an exclusive report on this. See the company website for details.
The following is the modern history of Jinan Ejiao, from which we can also see the glory of Hongjitang Ejiao.
At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, under the impetus of the world economic tide, the national bourgeoisie rose rapidly, and Jinan became an important industrial and commercial port in Shandong because of its convenient transportation. The donkey-hide gelatin industry in Dongshui, Jinan has grown from scratch to become the center of the national donkey-hide gelatin industry, and the donkey-hide gelatin industry in Dong 'Acheng ranks second.
There are two reasons for this. First, in Wulongtan, near Dongliushui Street in Jinan, many springs are originally "water-saving and living water", with abundant water sources and excellent water quality, which meets the requirements of the traditional technology of Ejiao industry; At the same time, Jinan's industrialists and businessmen have abundant funds, and once they see business opportunities, they can quickly invest huge sums of money and start large-scale operations.
At first, Dong 'e people Liu Chunyun, Liu, Si, Si and Si successively went to Dongliushui to run the Ejiao industry, bringing traditional Ejiao production technology and laying the foundation for the Ejiao industry in Dongliushui. Among them, Chen Yi's Ejiao Village in Yanshoutang, Tongxingtang Ejiao Village in Liu Aiyun and Guangchengtang Ejiao Village in Liu Qingyun all enjoy high reputation. Together with Hongjitang Ejiao Factory opened in Xuan Tong in the second year, it is called the four Ejiao villages in the early Republic of China. According to the China Industrial Journal, by the mid-1930s, there were 15 Ejiao production enterprises in Jinan, almost all of which were located near Dongliushui Street.
Hongjitang Ejiao Factory is a rising star in the history of Ejiao development, but it is worth a special book. This is not only because the factory was founded by Le Jingyu, manager of Jinan Hongjitang, an old branch of Beijing Tongrentang Le Jia Store, but more importantly, Le Jingyu successfully introduced modern scientific and technological culture, total quality management and marketing concepts into the Ejiao industry, which made Ejiao shine with unprecedented brilliance.
Shortly after the factory opened, the manager Le Jingyu was determined to solve this problem in view of the residual smell of Ejiao produced by various rubber farms at that time. To this end, he devoted himself to trying to figure out the relevant documents of past dynasties, and determined the idea of refining through repeated experiments. That is, after boiling and peeling, the procedure of cold storage and precipitation of glue juice for three to four days is added. The fishy smell in the glue juice is evaporated by heating and cooling the glue juice, and the glue foam containing impurities is skimmed at the same time, which is beneficial to the extraction of glue. In addition, auxiliary materials such as soybean oil, rock sugar, Shaoxing wine, etc. It should also be of excellent quality, and inferior quality is absolutely not allowed. Hongjitang Ejiao made by this method enjoys a high reputation because of its pure texture, sweet smell and remarkable curative effect. In addition, the original Ejiao was pure leather glue, but Le Jingyu added nourishing medicinal materials such as Angelica sinensis, flavoring medicinal materials such as dried tangerine peel and licorice, and also added precious medicinal materials such as ginseng and pilose antler, with tortoise plastron as tortoise plastron and tortoise plastron as tortoise plastron, which greatly increased the curative effect of Ejiao.
Ejiao brands of Hongjitang, such as Fu Zi, won the best prize in Shandong Trade Fair in 19 14, and the gold medal and the first silver prize in Panama Pacific World Expo in 19 15, which won the world reputation for Chinese medicine culture and made indelible contributions to the world Chinese medicine culture. Before the July 7th Incident, Hongjitang Ejiao had 16 varieties, including five kinds of donkey skin supernatant, refined donkey skin supernatant, refined Jiahe supernatant and gourmet gelatin. Its products went north to Beijing and Tianjin, south to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Huguang, Fujian and Guangdong, and were exported to Japan and Southeast Asia, which became the heyday of Hongjitang Ejiao production and distribution. At that time, six rubber farms, namely Hongjitang, Zhaoshutang, Tongyitang, Dechengtang, Yanshoutang and Jiuhetang, had an annual output of Ejiao/KLOC-0.0 million kilograms, making them the national Ejiao industrial centers.
However, with the eight-year war in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the three-year civil war that followed, people's livelihood was in dire straits, and all industries were dying. The donkey-hide gelatin industry in Dongshui and Dong 'Acheng has collapsed and gradually declined, and the donkey-hide gelatin industry is facing an unprecedented choice between life and death. After the founding of New China, with the strong support of the government, the donkey-hide gelatin industry came out of nowhere, and many donkey-hide gelatin shops and factories were reopened to expand production. After three years of recovery, the Ejiao industry in Dongliushui, Jinan, reached the production level before the July 7th Incident.
1952, the first state-owned donkey-hide gelatin factory in China-Shandong Jinan Pingyin donkey-hide gelatin factory was built with state investment, combined with famous medical experts from East Acheng and leaders from Deng Shudetang and Tu Huaidetang, and the site was located in East Acheng.
Dramatically, due to the diversion of the Yellow River, the People's Government of Shandong Liberated Area adjusted Pingyin and Dong 'a counties in 1948, and transferred the ancient Dong 'a county, which had been built in the eighth year of Ming Hongwu, south of the Yellow River, to Pingyin County and changed it to Dong 'a Town, and the government headquarters of Dong 'a County was moved to Tongcheng Town (Liaocheng), north of the Yellow River.
1953, another state-owned Ejiao factory, Dong 'e Ejiao Factory, was invested by the state and established by the old rubber workers' organization, and its site was located in Tongcheng Town.
1956, private shops such as Hongjitang Ejiao Factory and Tianyitang Ejiao Factory in Dongliushui, Jinan, were merged into Jinan Ejiao Factory through public-private partnership, becoming the largest and best quality Ejiao production enterprise in China in 1950s and 1960s, with an annual output of more than 300,000 Jin, and a variety of new products such as "Hailong Glue" were developed. Its Fuzi Ejiao has won a good reputation at home and abroad and has become a well-known brand in Ejiao industry.
1968, based on the consideration of production layout, Shandong Medicinal Materials Company handed over its Ejiao production equipment and production tasks to Shandong Pingyin Ejiao Factory and Shandong Donge Ejiao Factory respectively. Since the Qing Dynasty, the Ejiao industry in Jinan Dongliushui has withdrawn from the historical stage and become a real history.
