They were all destroyed and rebuilt until they were burned down by a mentally ill patient in the early morning of February 25, 1984. Tongji Bridge is the oldest existing ancient bridge in Yuyao. It was originally a wooden bridge built in the Northern Song Dynasty and was named Dehui Bridge. Like Shunjiang Tower, it has been destroyed many times. The bridge was built and the current bridge was rebuilt during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty. It is said that there is no shortage of stones in the south and it should have been built with stones long ago. The wooden bridge can last for several years in the humid weather in the south. Tongji Bridge and Shunjiang Tower form a combination of "Changhong soaring into the sky and flying pavilions ballasting".
