The body is narrow and long, cylindrical, slightly flat. The cephalothorax only covers the head and the first 4 segments of the chest, and the last 4 thoracic segments are exposed and can move. . There is a pair of compound eyes with stalks. These two body segments are movable at the front of the head. There are 8 pairs of thoracic feet, the first 5 pairs are Zhen feet, and the last 3 pairs are walking feet, which are smaller and double-limbed. The abdomen grows, the first five pairs of abdominal limbs are double limbs, and the outer limbs are equipped with gills; the tail limbs and telson form a powerful tail fan. All males have a pair of handover rods on the inside of the base of the last pair of walking legs, but females do not. This is different from ordinary shrimps and crabs. The first pair of jaws is very small; the second pair is powerful, mantis-like, with flat blade-like distal segments and sharp teeth, which are sharp weapons for preying and defending against enemies; the ends of the third to fifth pairs are like bull claws. The abdomen is broad and has 6 segments. Finally, there is a wide and short telson, which together with the last pair of appendages on the abdomen form a tail fan. Distributed in the tropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, including the Taiwan Strait, South China Sea, etc. Inhabits mud, sand and sandy reefs, from the low intertidal zone to about 10 meters under the shallow sea. Digging holes on the sandy or muddy bottom, most of which are "U" shaped.
