2. What's the difference between vitamin A and carotene?
A: Different sources
Vitamin A can be obtained from cod liver oil, roe, cream or eggs of various animals, while carotene can only be obtained from colored vegetables, such as spinach, carrots, red sweet potatoes and some fruits.
B: Different doses.
Excessive intake of vitamin A will lead to vitamin A poisoning, because vitamin A can be dissolved in fat but not in water. When carotene is dissolved in water, it can decompose many effective components needed by human body, including vitamin A, which is not excreted with urine, but exists in the liver. So if you take too much, it will lead to vitamin A poisoning.
C: Safety is different.
Relatively speaking, taking carotene is much safer than taking vitamin A, because, as mentioned above, a little carelessness will lead to excessive vitamin A poisoning, and most vitamin A poisoning is caused by excessive supplementation of fish oil.
