Extended data:
In prehistoric times, today's Bengbu (including the urban area and its three counties of Huaiyuan, Wuhe and Guzhen, the same below) was inhabited by Huaiyi people. Legend has it that Dayu went south to meditate on water control, passed by Tu Shan in Yuhui District today, and married Tu Shanshi's daughter, the first emperor of China (the Xia Dynasty was founded in 2 1 century BC).
During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Bengbu was once the city of Xufang, Shandong, Song, Wu, Yue and Chu respectively.
Geologically, Bengbu is located in the composite part of the second subsidence zone of New China and the Qinling belt-like structural zone, and belongs to the secondary structural unit of Huaihe Depression of China-Korea paraplatform, which is called "Bengbu platform arch".
Bengbu belongs to the transitional zone between the north subtropical humid monsoon climate zone and the south temperate semi-humid monsoon climate zone, and has the characteristics of two climatic zones. The monsoon is remarkable, the four seasons are distinct, the climate is mild, the rainfall is moderate, the sunshine is sufficient, and the frost-free period is long. However, because it is located in the mid-latitude, cold and warm air masses frequently meet, change greatly and the precipitation is concentrated, so droughts and floods often occur, which has a certain impact on agricultural production.
The wild animals and insects in Bengbu mainly include rabbits, pheasants, badgers, hedgehogs, weasels, leopard cats, nighthawks, bats, mice, snakes, crickets, frogs, toads, lizards, geckos, geese, Xiaoyan, magpies, crows, sparrows, wild ducks, turtledoves, herons and cuckoos.
