It often grows in wet stone walls and moss layers, often combined with shrubs, or grows on forest edges, grasses and places with mountain springs. It is also born under evergreen broad-leaved forest at an altitude of 100-3200m, under trees or coniferous forests, and cultivated in Beijing and Tianjin.

Bletilla striata is irregular and oblate, with 2 ~ 3 claw-like branches, with a length of 1.5 ~ 5 cm and a thickness of 0.5 ~ 1.5~5cm. The surface is grayish white or yellowish white, with several concentric rings and brown punctate fibrous root marks, with prominent stem marks on it and traces connecting another tuber on the bottom.
Hard, not easy to break, the section is white horny. Slight gas, bitter taste, sticky to chew.
Bletilla striata is generally distributed in East China, Central South, Southwest China, Gansu, Shaanxi and other places. Guizhou has the largest output and the best quality.
