How to cut crab-leg orchid to survive easily? These steps are indispensable
Crab-leg orchid is a relatively common cactus flower. The flowers are highly decorative. And if you want to cultivate crab claw orchid at home, you can cultivate it through the following cutting steps.
Friends who like to display flowers and plants at home should all know about the crab claw orchid. Its crisp green rhizomes before blooming are deeply loved by everyone. And after the crab claw orchid blooms, it is even more amazing. The bright and bright flowers are very decorative and are very eye-catching whether placed indoors or on the balcony. The spreading buds look like red-hot crab claws, hence the name Crab Claw Orchid.
Like most cactus plants, crab claw orchid is a relatively easy flower to grow. Whether it is grown in large soil or in a pot, it is very easy to cultivate. For novices, if they want to cultivate crab claw orchid, they usually take cuttings. The following cutting steps and details can help you grow lovely crab claw orchid faster.
First, prepare suitable soil.
The soil used for cuttings is preferably black soil. You can choose some soil containing rotten leaves, which will be more fertile. If you can't find it, you can also use general soil and add some coal or wood chips to mix it. When mixing, you can sprinkle a little water and a small amount of nutrient soil to ensure the fertility of the soil.
The second step is to make cuttings.
Generally, we use cactus as a base for cuttings of crab claws, because in comparison, cactus takes root faster. The specific method is to take a larger piece of cactus, cut an opening in the middle, insert the cut part of the crab claw orchid into the opening, and gently squeeze it with your hands to fix it. After inserting, insert the entire part into the prepared soil and press the surrounding soil with a small shovel to secure it.
The third step is to fertilize.
In order to make the crab claw plant survive faster, it must be supplemented with sufficient nutrients, so it needs to be fertilized after cutting. Generally, we can choose special fertilizer for succulent plants to topdress crab claw orchid. If it is really unavailable, we can use general flower rooting agent instead. When fertilizing, burying a finger-sized amount of fertilizer about 1cm away from the roots will be effective. However, you need to remember to replenish it about two weeks after the cuttings are made.
The fourth step is watering.
Although the crab claw plant is a plant that likes dryness, its demand for water will increase when it is just cut. Therefore, we need to remember to use a small spray bottle to spray a circle of clean water around it to satisfy its water consumption.
After completing the above four steps, the entire cutting process of the crab claw orchid is basically completed, but if this is the case, there is still no guarantee that it will survive smoothly. We need to place it in a location with sufficient light but not exposed to the sun, and pay attention to the following two care items during daily maintenance.
1. Pay attention to pests and diseases. During the growth process, the crab claw plant is easily attacked by scale insects, which will cause the roots of the crab claw plant to gradually turn yellow and even wither. Therefore, once scale insects are found, they must be scraped with bamboo chips immediately and sprayed with pesticides to prevent the pests from appearing again.
2. When the crab claw orchid grows taller, it needs to be supported by a frame. As the orchid grows older, the weight of the rhizome may cause it to fall downward, breaking the flower branches or pressing on other flower branches. Therefore, if you want the crab claw plant to bloom smoothly, when its rhizome grows to about 15cm, you need to insert some small branches in the soil to support the crab claw plant rhizome to protect its healthy growth.
