Turtle armor is the dorsal and ventral armor of the turtle Chinemys reevesii (Gray), family Tortoises. The turtle lives in rivers and ponds. Distributed in Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Taiwan and other places. Mainly produced in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui.
The medicinal part of tortoise shell:
The medicinal part of this product is the dorsal and ventral armor of the tortoise Chinemys reevesii (Gray). It can be captured all year round, with the autumn and winter seasons being the most common, killed after capture, or scalded to death with boiling water, stripped of the dorsal and ventral armor, removed the remnants of the flesh, and dried in the sun. After different concoctions, it can produce Chinese medicine tablets such as tortoise shell, vinegar tortoise shell and wine tortoise shell. It is better to have large, complete and no residual meat.
The characteristics of turtle shell:
The dorsal and ventral armor are connected by the bridge, the dorsal armor is slightly longer than the ventral armor, and the ventral armor is often separated. The dorsal armor is long oval arch-shaped, 7.5-22cm long, 6-18cm wide; the outer surface is brown or black-brown, with 3 ridge ribs; the cervical shield is 1, narrow in the front and wide in the back; the vertebral shield is 5, with the 1st vertebral shield longer than wide or nearly equal, and the 2nd-4th vertebral shields wider than long; the ribbed shields are symmetrical on both sides, each of which is 4; the rimmed shields are 11 per side; and there are 2 rump shields.
The abdominal armor is plate-like, nearly rectangular-elliptic, 6.4-21 cm long, 5.5-17 cm wide; the outer surface is light yellowish brown to brownish black, with 12 shields, each often with a purplish-brown radial texture, the abdominal, thoracic and femoral shields with a long median slit, the laryngeal shield, the anal shield, and the brachial shield with the shortest median slit; the inner surface is yellowish-white to grayish-white, with some slightly bloodstained or with remnants of meat, and the bone plates can be seen in 9 pieces when removed, which are serrated and embedded. The plates are serrated; the anterior end is bluntly rounded or truncated, the posterior end is triangularly notched, and a wing-like, obliquely curved bridge of nails remains on both sides. The texture is hard. Gas slightly fishy, taste slightly salty.
Turtle shell sweet and cold, so the spleen and stomach cold people avoid serving.
