Cold-water fish in academic circles are generally referred to as salmon and trout, and refer to salmon.
At present, salmon and trout are still used in fishery yearbook statistics in China.
Salmon is used to refer to salmon, such as arctic salmon and American salmon, and trout is used to refer to salmon trout other than salmon.
The name of salmon is also confusing. Because the Latin name of salmon and trout is sam, commercial salmon and trout were translated as "three-striped" fish when they were first introduced to China. At first, salmon was a general term for salmon and trout, not a specific fish, but later it was found that most of the commercial salmon and trout imported from abroad were Atlantic salmon, so some people simply called Atlantic salmon salmon.
With regard to the name of salmon, the species of salmon and trout cultured in China are relatively single, mainly rainbow trout and golden trout, both of which belong to the genus Salmon, so some people call salmon and trout salmon, including whitebait and Ma Su Maha.
However, the species of salmon and trout cultured in China can't all be called salmon, because both Arctic spotted salmon and American spotted salmon belong to the family Salmonidae, Lepidoptera, and Hucho is the genus Hucho, both of which belong to the family Salmonidae.
