Bengbu is located in East China, the western part of the Yangtze River delta, the northeastern part of Anhui Province, the middle reaches of the Huai River, and the north-south geographic boundary of China on the line of Qinling-Huai River. The territory is mainly plains, scattered hills in the south. It belongs to the transition zone between the humid monsoon climate of the northern subtropical zone and the semi-humid monsoon climate zone of the southern temperate zone.
The main railroad lines through Bengbu are the Beijing-Shanghai Railway, the Huainan Railway, the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway and the Hebeng High-speed Railway. Bengbu is known as the "Pearl City" because of its history of "Ancient Pearl Harvesting Place", and it is also known as the land of the lords of Yuhui and the Pearl City of Huaishang.
On January 1, 1947, Bengbu was officially established as the first city in Anhui Province. Bengbu is one of the birthplaces of the Huaihe River culture, and the engraved symbols unearthed at the Shuangdun culture site 7,300 years ago were recognized as one of the important origins of Chinese writing.
