Stone pheasant has no extensive migration habits, but its vertical migration with seasonal changes is more obvious in Qinghai Plateau. In spring and summer, with the warming of the weather, the mountain snow melts, and its distribution area moves up to the snow line, even to about 4700m m, and in autumn and winter, with the temperature dropping, the snow line moves down and gradually falls to the foot of the mountain or the bottom of the ditch. Longdong is warmer in winter and the vertical migration is not obvious. When snow covers the ground in winter, they wander around looking for food exposed on the ground.
Folding habit
Only the spring and summer breeding season is a single or paired activity, and autumn and winter are a group gathering. In autumn, the colony is small, mainly composed of young birds led by parents, ranging from 5 to 20. In winter, several such small groups form a larger group, and occasionally there are hundreds of them in Qinghai, which are active in the ravine. Because of the need of drinking water, it is always active in valleys and springs. When there are many green plants, stay a little farther from the water source, up to 5-6 kilometers at the farthest.
It is a terrestrial bird with healthy feet and walking freely. Generally, you don't fly unless you are afraid. Always go up the hill. If you find an enemy at the foot of the mountain, you will rush to the foot of the mountain and shout as a warning. Seldom walk down the hillside. If you find the enemy's injury on it, you can either stay down or take off quickly. Let out a terrible cry when flying away in horror. The flight is mainly gliding, sliding from one hillside to another, occasionally crossing the low ridge, and the farthest is not more than 500m m. The wings rarely flap during flight. In order to improve the altitude or speed up the flight, the 1-2 wing is occasionally encouraged. Flying is powerful and fast, but it can't last.
Activities during the day are more regular. The east cries loudly at dawn, and then begins to feed or go to the water source to drink. 10 am, stop foraging and singing. Drink water 1 time a day in spring and summer, mostly in the early morning or after foraging in the morning. Because they eat fresh green plants with high water content, they sometimes don't even drink water in late spring and early summer. Occasionally increase the number of daily drinking water in midsummer. In autumn and dry winter, the amount of daily drinking water increases. When the water source freezes in winter, it pecks at ice and snow. In spring, summer, autumn and hot noon, hide under plants or in the shade of rocks, don't go out and avoid the sun. At noon in winter, bask in the sun on the hillside ridge or stone cliff to avoid the cold. At about 4 pm, I began to go out for food again and found a place to spend the night at dusk. At night, I usually stay in the pit of a steep cliff. Activities during the day are related to the weather, and sometimes you don't go out for activities on rainy or snowy days. In winter, the days are short and there is little food. Sometimes people run around all day looking for food. Have the habit of taking a dust bath. On the shady slope of the mountain, where the sand is loose, small sand pits with dust baths are often left. Dust bath is more common when molting, and the fallen feathers often stay in the pit.
