During the Spring and Autumn Period, Jie Zitui, the minister of the State of Jin, tried to protect Zhong Er, the eldest son of the State of Jin, from escaping. In order to prevent Zhong Er from starving to death, he cut off the meat from his thigh and gave it to Zhong Er. Later, Zhong Er became the king of the State of Jin and wanted to give meson an official title, but meson refused to be an official and lived in seclusion in the mountains. In order to push the meson out, it was suggested that Yamakaji should be released. As a result, it burned for many days, but the meson push still didn't come out. After the fire went out, meson's body was found. Zhong Er regretted it. To commemorate meson tui, this day was designated as the Cold Food Festival, which later evolved into today's Tomb-Sweeping Day.
Tomb-Sweeping Day was originally a very important solar term. As soon as Tomb-Sweeping Day arrives, the temperature rises, which is a good season for spring ploughing and sowing. Therefore, there are agricultural proverbs such as "Before and after Qingming Festival, point melons to plant beans" and "Planting trees is not as good as Tomb-Sweeping Day". Later, as the days of Tomb-Sweeping Day and cold food approached, cold food was the day when people banned fire to sweep graves. Gradually, cold food and Tomb-Sweeping Day became one, and cold food became another name of Tomb-Sweeping Day and a custom of Tomb-Sweeping Day. On that day in Tomb-Sweeping Day, there were no fireworks and only cold food.
Originated from this story, Tomb-Sweeping Day gradually evolved into an important day to sacrifice ancestors and martyrs. On this day, no matter where you are or what you are doing, you will miss your dead relatives in your heart, and even go back to your hometown for a long time to visit their graves. When I came to the grave, I offered offerings, burned some paper money, said a few words, and couldn't help crying. With infinite concern and yearning for their loved ones.
