The horseface triggerfish is an offshore warm-temperate demersal fish, omnivorous. There is some production along the coast, and the fish meat has a high protein content, making it a nutritious and popular food. The type locality of this species is in Yantai. It is distributed in North Korea, Japan, the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, as well as the East China Sea, the Yellow Sea, and the Shanghai area seen at the mouth of the Yangtze River and other waters, belonging to the offshore near-bottom fish. In Shanghai and Fujian and Zhejiang area is known as rubber fish; in the north is known as pickerel fish, bread fish.
