Is Chinese sturgeon a freshwater fish or a marine fish?
Acipenser sinensis is a freshwater fish. Although they are freshwater fish, they also live in seawater. Because of their different growth stages, they will enter different waters to live.

Under normal circumstances, the production of Chinese sturgeon is completed in fresh water, so all Chinese sturgeons live in fresh water in their infancy. But they have the habit of migration. When they grow up, they will move into the sea. Although they will move into seawater, when they are mature, they will once again enter fresh water for reproduction.

Life habits of Chinese sturgeon

Acipenser sinensis is the largest and longest-lived freshwater fish, with its powerful shape, huge individual and long life span, with the longest life span reaching 40 years. After the Chinese sturgeon enters the river, it must stay in the river for one year and arrive at the spawning site in the following year 10. During this year, the Chinese sturgeon did not always swim up the river, but sometimes swam and stopped, sometimes lurking in the potholes of the river for several days. In the autumn of the following year, it can be traced back to the river section where the upper reaches of the river are fast-flowing and the bottom is gravel, and the breeding groups gather in the spawning ground to breed.

Acipenser sinensis is a kind of benthic fish, which belongs to omnivorous fish mainly based on animal food. It mainly feeds on some small or slow-moving benthic animals, including shrimps, crabs, fish, mollusks and aquatic insects. Because of the different food types in the living environment, the young fish mainly feed on chironomid larvae, dragonfly larvae, mayfly larvae and plant debris in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, while the young fish in the salty and fresh water area of the estuary feed on shrimp, crabs and small fish.
