In the past, we may only know to commemorate Qu Yuan, but since reading my article, we can't just know that someone jumped into the river to commemorate Qu Yuan. In fact, the origin and meaning are more than that, mainly from the following meanings and origins:
1, in memory of Qu Yuan
As we all know, Qu Yuan was a native of Chu State in the Warring States Period. He couldn't bear to see the country perish and died in the Guluo River on May 5th. In order to prevent Qu Yuan from being eaten by fish and shrimp, ordinary people rowed boats to salvage the bodies and sprinkled their own cooked rice into the river. Since then, there has been a custom of dragon boat racing and eating zongzi every year on the Dragon Boat Festival.
2. "Zongzi" drives dragons
During the Jianwu period, Changsha people dreamed of a man who claimed to be Dr. San Lv at night and said to him, "Everything you sacrificed was stolen by the dragon in the middle of the river. In the future, you should wrap it with wormwood leaves and tie it with colorful silk thread. The dragon is most afraid of these two things, so you don't have to worry about being destroyed by the dragon again!" As a result, people made "horn millet" with "leaves wrapped in millet".
3. Pray for "Zongzi"
Because "Zongzi" is homophonic for "neutron", there is a folk custom that eating "Zongzi" can give birth to a son. "Zongzi" is the homonym of "numerous sons", which means that people are prosperous.
4, high "Zongzi" fame
Because the sound of "Zongzi" and "Zhong" are close, it means "high school fame", which means that the bachelor has achieved fame in the exam. Usually, the ancient imperial examinations are held in autumn, so during the Dragon Boat Festival, it means high school to eat zongzi for those who want to get the first place in fame.
5, light "Zongzi" Yaozu
Because the sound of "Zongzi" and "Zong" are close, eating Zongzi on the Dragon Boat Festival means "glorifying ancestors", so people in every household eat Zongzi during the Dragon Boat Festival.
